PROPOSAL FOR A COLLECTIVE INITIATIVE FOCUSED ON THE CONSTRUCTION OF A SPACE, PLATFORM TO DISCUSS PUBLIC POLICY AND POPULAR PARTICIPATION<\/p>\n
The Forum on Justice serves as an open space, platform whereby social movements, civil society organizations, and public servants from the justice system can discuss judicial policies and popular participation, emphasizing justice as a public service. This forum was developed to provide continuity to the 2009 seminar held in Rio de Janeiro on Brasilia\u2019s 100 Standards for Access to Justice for People in Vulnerable Conditions. It reaffi rms the National Association of Public Defenders (ANADEP) commitment to the strengthening and development of democratic mechanisms which meet popular demands. Guided by the same commitment to remove obstacles to democracy and expand tools for popular participation, the Research Group on Human Rights, Judiciary, and Society (DHPJS \/ UERJ) joins this forum as a partner.<\/p>\n
The objective is to bring together and coordinate eff orts that aim to increase popular participation in the development and infl uence of public policy regarding the judicial system. WHY A FORUM ON JUSTICE? Changes in institutional arrangements which are necessary for the \u2018democratization\u2019 of the judicial system require the inclusion of popular participation in the formulation, monitoring, and control of public policy. Thus, the needs and efforts of civil society and social movements, that propose alternatives aimed at eliminating obstacles regarding access to the above mentioned judiciary system, can be included in the development of public policy. Hence, the Justice forum serves as a space, platform whereby groups can discuss public policy, identify impediments, and collectively seek solutions that both influence public policy and meet the needs of those entitled to access to a free and just judicial system.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
